White Teachers

White teachers need to hold all students to the same standards and not just their own race. It should not matter what race the students are.

  1. You know you are right. Now, there are a few caveats. Many students will be able to physically take a standardized test and many will take them and do poorly. With that said, we have to make sure we are addressing the needs of each and every student in the best possible way so they can perform their best. Often times, students will see standardized tests and taking standardized tests as a daunting task, but if a teacher pushes all his/her students to do their very best this will diminish those nervous feelings. This is not an easy task to hold all students to the same standards. In fact, most of the time there will always be students that need additional time to complete a task and perhaps even further intervention, but that is not to say they are not capable. The misconception with the standard test is it measures knowledge, but doesn't necessarily measure ability very well in terms of non-traditional students and students that may not feel comfortable or aware of how standardized tests operate. I believe all students have abilities that are capable of getting them through highschool at some level and those levels should be more finely combed through using the teacher's discretion, not some standardized test.

  2. I agree that all teachers should hold all students to high standards. As Peter stated, students have different needs and abilities that should be noted and addressed in order to help all students succeed. Individual student differences should also be recognized in order to understand how to meet students´ needs. No matter race, teachers should expect students to grow and develop in their classroom and provide the necessary support to ensure success. 3. Totally true because white teachers overwhelmingly covet those white students that they know personally or just usually hold to higher standards. Discriminatory practices have been going on for centuries and it is really easy to see these institutional practices at work in the schools. Another aspect you should look in to is something called the Restrictive Deed Covenant. This readily helps explain residential segregation as well.

  4. I agree with you Peter that all students are not on the same level and some may need more assistance than others, but I still think they can be held at the same standards. Teachers would have to push that child in a positive way so he/she can catch up to their classmates and other students in the same grade level.

  5. Lindsey, I agree that individual differences should be recognize. I feel the teacher should use the difference to fuel the spark in the student to want to learn and excel.

  6. Dannie, I did look into it and I have heard it before. I did not know the technical name however. I just feel that people need to get over the whole color issue. It is just ridiculous. Individuals need to stop judging others before they even get the opportunity to get to know the person. There are evil individuals out there from every social class and race. No race is more superior than another. Its a shame young children are facing racism for no reason.
